IIT Bombay- Bamboo Poly-house

Cultivation of crops in off-season fetches good prices in the market. Off-season cultivation of crops is much possible in poly-houses. Additionally preparing saplings, grafts, seedlings of important and rare crops is much possible in poly-house. The trust has one conventional poly-house having a poly film roof and shade net fitting at sides.

In addition to this conventional poly-house, two newly designed and different kind of poly-houses are erected. For these two poly-houses instead of steel structures locally, available bamboos are used. That's why these two poly-houses are of new kind. These two poly-houses are erected with collaboration from IIT, Mumbai. This kind of small- scale poly-houses will be a source of income for small or marginal farmers of kokan. Presently all the three poly-houses are in a routine use.

Rain water harvesting and storage

A fact for the kokan is, area receives plenty of rain during South - West Monsoon. With subsistence of monsoon, immediately in 2 months later water scarcity is a regular difficulty. The trust has constructed a polythene film lined farm pond. Volume is 6000 meter cubes and water storage capacity is 60 lakhs litres.

During rainy season without pumping water (means without using any energy) the pond is filled completely. This rain harvested water is possible to use to irrigate e vegetable like crops in a post monsoon period.

In collaboration with IIT, Mumbai new kind of small water storage tanks are in a construction phase. Two are completed. Here for constructing the water storage tanks, instead of only steel, locally available bamboos are used. These bamboos used tanks are of 5000 and 10000 L capacity. Here also focus is small marginal farmer of kokan.
