Divine Presence in Mumbai | Akkalkot Niwasi Shri Swami Samarth Temple, Andheri
On August 18, 1954, Shri Baba completed his incarnation, Shri Baba blessed Mr. Maraballi with a realization and informed him to take out 2 Asthi (sacred remains) and give those to Shri Maharaj. Akkalkot Niwasi Shri Swami Samarth Temple (Inspired by Shri Sadguru Sahajanand Saraswati Maharaj), Andheri is built as a shrine having these ‘Asthi’ installed. The temple is inspired by Shri Sadguru Sahajanand Saraswati Maharaj. On September 2, 1994, the foundation stone of the new temple was laid by Walawalkar Saheb in the presence of Shri Kaka Maharaj. Monday, 20th February 1995 (Magh V. 5, Saka 1916) the idol of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj was installed. The whole ceremony was phenomenal.
This temple was built within five months. Mr. Ajit Kudchadkar prepared the plan of the temple. The marble was brought from Makrana in Rajasthan. Craftsmen were also brought from there. The wood carving was done by Hiralal, an artisan who worked for Shri Baba Maharaj's temple in Pune. The design of this temple realized under the guidance of Shri Kaka Maharaj is very innovative.
The magnificent idol of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj as “Don't be afraid, I am with you! (भिऊ नकोस, मी तुझ्या पाठीशी आहे!)” gives such a reassuring message. The attractive architecture and the equally beautiful, artistic decoration, the very clean, pleasant and meticulously kept temple and its surroundings, the discipline of washing hands and feet while entering the temple for darshan, which does not expect anything beyond worship and discipline from the devotees, this temple feels different to Mumbaikars in many ways.
