Walfare Mankind

For the Welfare of Mankind

Dervan is a small village situated on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Chiplun taluka, Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. In 1968, a project was introduced for the overall development of this village. The goal was to build a society that is capable, ethical and fearless; one that can contribute towards a strong and successful nation. As the so-called ‘modern’ society continues indulging in materialistic & pleasure-seeking pursuits, a need to raise awareness of their duties and responsibilities and to guide them on the path of action Karma Yoga becomes inevitable.

CILLAGE – Where Knowledge Bridges City & Village

Cillage is a visionary development model that seamlessly integrates knowledge, research, technology, values, and livelihoods to transform rural regions into vibrant hubs of opportunity.

Moving beyond the traditional divide between urban and rural India, Cillage creates a knowledge bridge—bringing world-class education, healthcare, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development into rural ecosystems, while connecting them directly to markets and global opportunities.

At its core, Cillage believes that true national progress is not measured only by GDP, but by inclusive growth, ethical grounding, and empowered communities. By nurturing universities, research centres, hospitals, schools, innovation labs, and enterprises within rural settings, the model enables young minds to innovate locally and compete globally—without being forced to migrate to cities.

Cillage is not a single project, but a living ecosystem:

Knowledge & Research
Technology & Innovation
Skill Development & Rural Livelihoods
Value-based Education & Ethics
Entrepreneurship & Economic Inclusion

When these elements come together in a rural landscape, the impact multiplies—creating sustainable prosperity, reducing inequality, and enriching both rural and urban futures.

Cillage is the next step in nation-building: A future where villages are not left behind, but lead the way.

In the Spirit of Upliftment

It was this goodwill and agenda, which motivated Shri Sadguru Sahajanand Saraswati Swami Samarth Maharaj (Shri Maharaj) to initiate a unique project at Dervan under Shree Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust (SVJCT), a selfless organization working with noble individuals who believe in serving humanity.

The goal was simple yet ambitious:

  • To ensure the availability of basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, drinking water, health services and education for the poor and under privileged people of the society
  • To free them from the shackles of ignorance, superstitions and lethargy
  • To generate employment and make them empowered
  • To make them feel proud of their history, culture, religion, their role in society and spiritual traditions
  • To make them aware of their duties

The hospital, with the capacity of 810 beds, is attached to the BKL Walawalkar Rural Medical college. Hospital and Rural medical colege has proven to be a boon for the people of Konkan region.

Developing a Cillage ecosystem would need a rooted and integrated approach to holistic education, research and technology-enabled enhancement of rural livelihood. Based on this theme, B.K.L Walawalkar Rural Medical College was established in the year 2015.

Scientific Advisory Committee

Scientific Advisory Committee

In addition to the innovative projects in medical field for the betterment of rural people, it is necessary for us to get ourselves involved in integrated, locally relevant research in healthcare. In order to take the hospital to the next level, Scientific Advisory Committee was formed for fresh and novel ideas from the experts in the field, who genuinely want to contribute to the upliftment of mankind. SAC is led by Padmavibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar.
